Happy Valentine’s Day Loves! This Valentine’s Day post will not be about relational love with another. Society already puts an overwhelmingly huge pressure on us to focus on love and gifts for someone special in our lives. But maybe you should take a step back and think, hello, I am someone special in MY life!
So here is my Valentine’s Day proposal to you, whether you are single or not, to make today about loving yourself. These are things I am trying to practice daily in my life and even when I fall short of these habits I am practicing being gentle on myself. So we are going to spend today loving all on ourselves. So here are 8 ways to be your own Valentine, but of course, feel free to make these daily habits!
Start the day with Gratitude.
Taking 5-10 minutes in the morning to write down something you are grateful for can dramatically improve the way you go about your day. We naturally have a negative inner dialogue with ourselves. This creates a downward spiral in our thoughts throughout the day. B
Give Yourself a Hug!
Yes, you read that right! I want you to give yourself a hug. Wrap your arms around your body and SQUEEZE! Yes, you may feel silly at first but there is so much power in giving yourself a hug. Did you know that hugs are good for your health and we should embrace hugs at least 8 times a day!! Sadly, we don’t live in a hug gifting society but I bet if you give yourself at least 1 hug today your mood and self-love will improve!
Pamper Yourself! 🧖🏾♀️
If you can book a facial, a massage, a pedicure, manicure, or whatever your heart desires book you one OKURRR!😂 If paying for these services is a problem at the moment create a nice relaxing space at home, turn on some spotify spa jams and DIY your pamper session. If you have a mask at home (which everyone should and if you don’t have at least one I am so side eyeing you right now 😂) put one on or get creative with the help of Pinterest and make your own facial mask with items commonly used in the kitchen.
Buy Yourself the Traditional VDay Gifts!
Buy yourself flowers, chocolate, balloons, jewelry, a nice dinner, etc. YOU deserve it! #treatyourself
This one is something I struggle with…being perfectly imperfect! No comparing yourself today! Only loving and accepting yourself for who you are. Knowing that you offer something to this world.
No One is YOU, and that is YOUR Power!”Dave Grohl
Write Yourself A Love Note.
Write down something you love about yourself or something you are proud of or accomplished. Put it somewhere you can see it.
This one I know is a struggle. It feels so uncomfortable to say but saying no is so important. Being able to set boundaries for yourself so that you do not allow people to take advantage of your kindness. You cannot do everything for everyone else, and this is especially important to remember today.
Practice Having A Forgiving Heart
Not just forgiving others that have hurt you but forgiving yourself! Being gentle with yourself and not beating yourself up for mistakes you have made.
Remember to just have fun and enjoy yourself! Alone time or “me” time doesn’t have to be a punishment or time spent being jealous because a celebrity was gifted a house full of flowers or someone you know got engaged. Like I said in the beginning, whether single or not love yourself today. Think of how special you would want this day to be for someone you love and pour all of that into yourself. Also, remember that the journey to self-love is a practice. It is great to do all of these things for Valentine’s Day but try to practice daily. I am by no way an expert but within the last year practicing self-love has truly changed how I view myself. It has given me courage and confidence. Practicing self-love can take such a short amount of time out of the day but it will be the most rewarding and transforming time spent. Leave me a comment letting me know if you have tried any of these self-love tips, and if no one has told you today You are Loved, You are Special, Happy Valentine’s Day! 😘
